Good morning friends. Oh, what a weekend. I celebrated my birthday quite early with my mom, who was visiting from Los Angeles, with plenty of amazing cocktails here and then had a lovely 4th of July picnic on the lawn of our home (with plenty of sweet tea and classic barbecue food.) Sadly though, that evening ended in catastrophe, with my husband breaking and dislodging his collarbone- I won't go into the details, but it occurred during a very silly game of baseball at the park. Poor guy- it doesn't look like he's going to be enjoying himself much this summer.
On a more cheerful note though, I thought I'd share some music today from She & Him, who I have been listening to nonstop lately (perfect summertime music, really.) Zooey's voice always give me goosebumps and manages to brighten my days. Plus, I have always adored "Fools Rush In," so having them do a cover of it makes it all the nicer.

monday morning music : my love.
Good morning! Did you all have a lovely weekend? Yesterday was a perfect day for me. I made pesto potato salad, homemade hamburger buns, and rhubarb upside-down cake, my husband grilled some veggie burgers and asparagus, and a dear friend brought over fresh-made sangria. We laid big blankets on the grass, listened to good music, and ate a feast on our lawn with our best friends while the kids ran around. Really, barbeque season is the best.
Now I shall start the week with music by one of my favorite newer bands (whom I have mentioned quite a few times), The Bird and the Bee. I frequently go through phases when I listen to them continuously (and dance like crazy.) Happy start-of-the-week everyone!

monday morning music : hands in pocket.
Good morning! I hope everyone had a splendid weekend. I cannot say mine was fun-filled since I spent the majority of the time doing heavy duty cleaning, but I feel like I got a lot accomplished (although still much more to go!) What did you do the past couple of days?
After a spurt of truly beautiful weather, Portland is back to being terribly dark and rainy. So, I am currently drinking my coffee with a blanket over me, listening to some "rainy morning music," which to me is somewhat sad and beautiful. One singer that I cannot seem to get enough of on days like this is local artist Laura Gibson. Her sweet voice and songwriting gives me goosebumps and manages to bring a calm over me. Enjoy this beautiful NPR performance!

monday morning music : heaven knows.
Good morning, dear readers. I hope you all enjoyed a fun-filled weekend. I spent time with lovely people, woke up bright and early to get a hold of gorgeous Liberty of London for Target products (ladies were crazy there!), and played a final show in my Kanye West acoustic cover band (a project I don't think I have ever mentioned on here.) All-in-all, yet another great weekend. Now I face the new week with a wretched headache and grumpy disposition- let's hope it gets better from here.
Today's Monday Morning Music is from one of my favorite bands of all time, The Smiths. Because few bands can put me in a better mood on a Monday, plus young Morrissey is so pleasant to look at.
